What is the IGNOU Assignment Evaluation System?

IGNOU uses a continuous evaluation system. The university conducts term-end examinations twice a year, in June & December. IGNOU evaluate candidates on four components, including:

  • Self-assessment exercises provided within each unit of study material.
  • Continuous evaluation mainly through tutor-marked assignments, practical assignments, and seminars/workshops/extended contact programs.
  • Term-end examinations.
  • Project or term-end practical examination.

IGNOU assignments are of two types, such as those marked by tutors or counselors, and those marked by computer (MCQ type). Students who fail to submit their assignment before the deadline will not be eligible to sit in the term-end examinations. Students must submit their Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) responses to the Coordinator of the Learner Support Centre (LCS) to which they are attached.

The concerned Learner Support Centre or regional centre evaluates the submitted assignments. The evaluated result is then sent to the Student Evaluation Division, which processes it and uploads the student’s result session-wise.
