UP Man Completes M.Tech at Age of 64

Table of Contents
A 64-year-old retired government employee just completed his M.Tech degree recently. He has not only completed his M.Tech degree but is also working as a Deputy CEO of the regulatory body overseeing municipal corporations in UP. He completed his M.Tech degree among a batch of 10 students, who were half his age. And he is not stopping here either; he is now aiming for an Executive Education program at IIM Lucknow.
In a recent X post, Shashank Srivastava shared the news that his father completed his M.Tech despite his age, and that he has a job that requires almost 1000 km of road travel every week, visiting districts and evaluating work on the ground. This is not just a story but a real-life motivation for people who want to study but, because of their age, feel overwhelmed about joining a college with a class full of young minds. His story is proof that learning has no expiry date, and neither does ambition.

Pursuing M.Tech Degree as a Deputy CEO
His job requires him to travel a lot every week, and he makes sure that this bane becomes a boon for him. He didn’t allow his workload to interrupt his studies; instead, he used the travelling time to prepare notes, learn the lessons and study for examinations. A working professional at the top of a demanding, senior role doesn't have room for a traditional, campus-bound degree. What he needed was a program built around his life, not the other way around.
This is not only the story of the 64-year-old Deputy CEO, but many people in India and abroad are pursuing their higher education while working. On the X post of Shashank, many social media users have replied, resonating with this journey of pursuing higher education later in life. One ‘X’ user replied that he has enrolled in a BSc Computer Science programme at the age of 50 while running a business.

Shashank has also mentioned how his father has motivated him, as he states, ‘As for me, it is a strangely comforting feeling. With his genes in me, motivation to upskill is one thing I will never have to go looking for.’ He has also added that ‘His next frontier is an Executive Education program at IIM Lucknow. At an age when most people are done setting goals, he is filling out application forms.’
This M.Tech degree is not only the end of his education journey but may be the starting point of his higher education. He is now willing to pursue an Executive Education from IIM Lucknow, and it clearly says it all that education doesn't have an expiry date.
