IGNOU Admission Fee and Other Charges

The admission fees at IGNOU is not limited to the tuition fee. Students may also have to pay registration and university development charges at the time of admission. IGNOU Admission fee and other charges that candidates need to pay, depending on the program, include:

  • Registration Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of ₹300 is payable along with the program fee at the time of admission, wherever applicable.
  • University Development Fee: A ₹400 university development fee is payable at the time of admission, wherever applicable.
  • Term-End Examination Fee: Students have to pay ₹200 per theory course to appear in the Term-End Examination.
  • Practical Examination Fee: For programs having a practical component, the fee is ₹300 per course for up to 4 credits and ₹500 per course for courses above 4 credits.
  • Project Evaluation Fee: Students enrolled in programs requiring project evaluation have to pay ₹300 per project of up to 4 credits and ₹500 per project above 4 credits.
  • Late Fee: An additional late fee may apply when examination or other prescribed forms are submitted after the specified deadline.

IGNOU Scholarships and Financial Assistance

IGNOU provides fee support to eligible students through its scholarship facility. Students who belong to the SC or ST category and are jail inmates can apply for these IGNOU scholarships. The policy is reviewed for every admission cycle, so students should check the latest provisions before applying.

IGNOU Fee Support for SC/ST Students

The fee exemption does not cover other applicable charges. Therefore, eligible SC/ST students still have to pay late fee, term-end examination fee, convocation fee, registration fee and other applicable charges.

SC/ ST category students may be eligible for the program fee exemption if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students whose parents’ or guardians’ income from all sources is under ₹2.5 lakh during the financial year, as per Government of India norms.
  • They must submit an income certificate issued by an authorised government agency during admission.

Candidates will not be eligible if:

  • They are employed.
  • They are already availing any fellowship or fee exemption from another agency.
  • Their family income is over  ₹2.5 lakh.

IGNOU Fee Waiver for Jail Inmates

  • IGNOU also provides a program fee waiver for jail inmates subject to specific conditions. 
  • Prison inmates are exempted from payment of the program fee, including the registration fee. 
  • However, they are required to pay subsequent applicable charges, such as examination and re-registration fees, after their release.
  • Certain programs, including professional programs such as MBA, MCA, B.Ed. and B.Sc. Nursing, are not offered to jail inmates under this provision. 
  • The scheme also applies only to programs without project, practical, workshop, field-work or seminar components.

IGNOU Fee Concession

Apart from the scholarship, IGNOU also offers a 15% concession on the program fee to students who choose digital study material over printed books. The option has to be selected during the application process. Students opting for digital material can access the preparation books through eGyankosh, IGNOU’s digital repository. Students opting for ebooks will not get the printed self-learning material.

How to Pay IGNOU Fees Online?

IGNOU allows students to pay program tuition fees, registration fees, and other applicable expenses using its official online admission site. The payment can be completed via a debit card, credit card, online banking, or UPI. Once the payment is made, take a printout of the receipt and store it for future reference. 

If a candidate has registered through the sponsored category, they must submit the program fee through SBI collection by a demand draft drawn in favour of IGNOU, payable at New Delhi.

IGNOU Fee Refund Policy

IGNOU permits students to request cancellation of admission and a return of the tuition under particular conditions. However, the amount refunded depends on the cause for the refund and whether the admission has been validated. The registration cost is non-refundable, but the program price may be repaid after applicable deductions as per the University's refund policy.

When Can IGNOU Fees Be Refunded?

A refund may be considered in cases such as:

  • Duplicate or multiple payments made for the same program due to an unsuccessful online transaction.
  • Payment made for more than one non-permissible program in the same admission session.
  • Rejection or cancellation of admission because the candidate does not meet the minimum eligibility criteria, the qualification is not recognised/equivalent, or due to an error, concealment of information or other issue attributable to the student.
  • Withdrawal of a program by IGNOU for any reason.

The registration fee is non-refundable. IGNOU also specifies that refund requests are subject to the University's prescribed timelines. No refund is admissible after 60 days from the closing date of admission for the concerned program.
